BoB Rules

Welcome to the Exciting World of Book Trivia!

The goal of Battle of the Books is to read as many of the 15 books from the list as possible to give your team the best chance of getting points.  Contestants earn points by correctly answering questions about which book details, characters, and/or events happen in.  You also need to know the authors of the books.

How it Works

Each team has 5 members.  Your team can divide up the books and each be responsible for 3, you can each decide to read all 15, or you can split it up in any other way your team agrees on.  Just remember that the more people read each book, the better the chance of remembering the small details.

Teams compete against each other to answer questions that start with "In which book..."  If your team can come up with the correct title and author you get a point.  The team with the most points at the end of the competition wins.

Types of Rounds

There are different types of possible rounds in Battle of the Books:

    • Relay Race
      • All teams compete against each other at the same time.  Team members run to one side of the gym to get a question.  If the team member knows the title and author he/she can answer right away.  If the team member is unsure he/she can run back and consult with their team.
    • Buzzer Round
      • Two teams face off against each other.  As soon as someone on the team knows an answer someone buzzes in and gets the chance to answer.
    • Round Robin
      • Two teams face off against each other.  Each team gets a set number of questions and take turns answering back and forth.
In all types of rounds, teams have the opportunity to consult each other and really work as a team.

Deciding Hopkins' Team

We will meet weekly for a few months prior to the district competition at Twain Elementary.  We will have 2-3 "Battles" where points will accumulate.  At the end of all Hopkins' Battles the team with the most points will go to the district battle.
